The T-shirt was invented in 1913. Somehow this was not the worlds most welcome invention. It was in the 1940s when the t-shirt became a popular American icon. Up until then it was reserved for the military. When our boys would come home from war, they would bering their issued t-shirts with them. Now we all wear them, and that's why!

I think a great part of why we wear them is because they are one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing you can find. It's amazing how many incarnations the T-Shirt comes in.

I had no idea that the t-shirt became popular in the 1940s. Were t-shirts generally accepted wear for both men and women in the beginning, or just men?
