OfflineWhat a wonderful era to teach about! When she is done, she might even get a history buff on her hands! Here may be some fun suggestions. Since she is teaching elementary school, I am guessing she is teaching the younger grades, so being age appropriate is important. To get a feel for the era, she could start with a few pictures of what people dressed like in that time, and play some songs so that they could get a feeling for the time. Then with the help of the internet download a 1940's radio show. It would be interesting to see their expressions when they can't "see" it, no TV and no computers in the day! Write down on a piece of paper, professions in the 1940s, then fold up the papers and have a student pick one out of the bowl. Then they could see what they could find out about that job that night and discuss it in class the next day. Devise a game using ration cards and see how far they get with a limited supply. Be inventive and creative, on if you don't have something, what could they use in its place. Just some thoughts.
