In 1946 the government in the UK intrduced a third of a pint of milk to be given free to every school child. After the war, with the scarcity of food, they thought this was necessary to build up children's bones and teeth. It wasn't until 1968 that the then PM, Harold Wilson stopped this perk for all but the youngest.

This is really interesting to me. I love learning historical facts like this, especially about my favorite time period. It also really does speak for the time period. I don't believe that this is something that would happen in America now.
