OfflineI, being so obsessed with crime and the "ugly" side of the 1940s, just read about Evelyn McHale, a woman who jumped from the Empire State building in New York in 1947 and landing on a limo. I believe she fell 86 stories. There was a picture of her body afterward that became famous and they referred to her as "the most beautiful suicide."
I find this so fascinating because many of the stories I've heard about the 1940s make everything sound so peachy, but there were still men and women dealing with depression and mental illness. There was a lot of sadness. I just find this story so fascinating.
