OfflineI'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about-- the Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce! Does anyone here like them? I do, but I'm also really annoyed by them because I feel bad for Watson becoming the fat bumbling comic relief character, when really in the books he's a superfit lady-killer who has quite a bit of intelligence (although of course not as much as Holmes).
Anyway! What's your favorite SH movie from the 1940s? I quite like The Spider Women, just because it's fun.

OfflineI love mysteries and am also a fan of the Sherlock Holmes series. Here is one movie that was very on target for what was happening in the 1940's. The Manor House Case. In this movie, Basil Rathbone is disguised as a German officer and almost gets killed in a bomb attack. This leaves Dr. Watson to solve the case. The character of Dr. Watson is very endearing, and it takes a skilled actor to pull the part off. So, I guess in the end, I just look at the movie series as great acting with engaging plots, and just for fun!
