Do you remember real silk stockings with seams? Even as a child I remember my mother taking great care over handling and washing these because they tended to ladder so easily.

Oh yes! I remember a great pair of legs with that beautiful seam up the back! We boys would whistle at the girls who wore them. They were much more appealing than jeans and slacks.

Silk stockings completed the women's fashion ensemble. They gave such a sexy yet innocent look and added appeal to one's dress.  I think the stockings were a perfect way to show one's well-shaped legs without being vulgar. Laughing

I wish I had a pair of those. I have some stockings but they are the new kind and I hate the elastic band. I think there is something so perfect about wearing silk stockings!

Seamed silk stockings are still available, ladies!  They may garner some interesting attention, but they're still available and quite comfortable, although it seems that hosiery altogether has lost it's appeal, sadly.  It seems the "bare look" is in, but most women look look best with polished, silken legs.  Even in the workplace, I'm always amazed at how "relaxed, casual attire" has become the norm.  Hosiery just seems so much more classy and an elegant addition to any ensemble.

Even further back, when silk was difficult to get, ladies used to colour their legs with gravy browning and draw a line up the back of their legs with a black eye pencil!

Where do you find them? The ones that i find have the elastic tops, which I hate. I just want to get the kind where you can hold them up with a garter belt. If you know of a place let me know, I would be very grateful.

FlorrieMay you are so right!  I understand that when it was difficult to get silk stockings, that one Manufacturer – I think it was Max Factor, actually created a cream to be applied to the legs to make it look like you had stockings on, then you would finish up with drawing a line up the back of the legs.  I always wondered how they were able to keep those seams straight!
