Everyone wore "Evening in Paris" where we lived. You could buy the perfume, soap and talcum powder and I always bought some for my mum for Christmas. Another favourite was "Lily of the Valley" but these weren't expensive of course. Do you remember what you wore?

I remember my Mother using Lily of the Valley but she always avoided Evening in Paris. I still love that fragrance but I don't know if they make it anymore. There is nothing like fragrances to call up memories.

I would love to find out if these are still sold anywhere. I would love to compare fragrances from the 40s to current fragrances. For those who do know, how do they differ?

I recall getting a whiff of Lily of the Valley long ago…it was my grandmother's and my mother's favorite for a long time, after which they used White Shoulders, another light, lovely floral. Ah, those fragrances do bring back memories, don't they? I think fragrances must have been more soft and feminine (floral) then. What about Joy de Jean Patou? Another intensely floral scent popular in the '30's and '40's, though quite expensive. I would have enjoyed the perfume counters of the '40's…mmmm…I can imagine all of those lovely florals and softer scents!
