Can you remember what names were popular back then? My school friends were all born in the forties and I remember a few common names like Jean, Maureen and Vera. Our mothers had names like Florence, Betty and Doris and the boys were Kenneth, Tony and Alfred. None of these seem to be in vogue now.

I quite like the name Florence myself!

I think of names from the 40s like Margaret, Barbara, Shirley, Suzanne, Bernice, and Harriet for women and Virgil, Freddie, and Clarence for men.
