I have to say that I really love jewelry from the 1940s – the brooches, the hair pins, the rings. I wish I could get away with wearing some of those things now! Jewelry was just so classy and elegant then.

My mum used to give me her old costume jewellery to play with if it had lost a stone or something. Marcasite was a popular stone and also she had a lot of pearl neclaces. I remember having a plastic version of her pearls called poppits!

My mom has some pearl necklaces that her mother passed on to her and they are gorgeous. I certainly think that people don't wear as many pearls as they should these days. They just look so classy whether they are in the form of earrings, bracelets, necklaces, or rings.

My mom's jewelry box also housed some pearl necklaces and earrings. When I was a kid, I used hang them on my neck and ears and pretended I was a model or a rich lady. Laughing My mom also used to have a favorite brooch – one which had an intricate floral design. She loved fastening it on her dress when she attended special functions.
