Does everyone here already know about the Fashion-Era website? If you don't, you should definitely go check out the 1940s fashion page-- it's gotlots of lovely photos and images of 1940s fashion from different countries!

This brought back some memories, especially the weddings page! I recall the photograph of my mother when she married my father in the early 40s.  He was in his naval uniform and she wore a suit she had made herself with padded shoulders and a nipped in waist. She wore a cute little hat. Contrast this with the amounts spent on weddings nowadays!

Oh, for sure! Even in just the areas that were emphasized, it's so different. Nowadays I think it's more legs whereas in the 40s it was more…waist?

I think the emphasis today is definitely more on the legs and maybe even the back or shoulders. I definitely see the emphasis on the waist in the pictures above. I suppose the hour glass figure was very 'in.' I love the hats too!
