What are some of your favorite patterns of clothing from the 1940s? I love polka dots, especially red and white. I also love some of the pale greens and pinks I see on a lot of older dresses.
I'm with you on the polka dots, Scarlett, particularly navy and white. I also like that patterns/women's fashions from the '40's were so feminine and flattering in form. Dresses and skirts emphasized the waist with the use of darts and belts, which gave a nice, shapely appearance. And nothing defines glamour and elegance better than 1940's evening wear.

OfflineMy Mom had some beautiful dresses in looking at the photos. The thing that struck me was just as Jazzy Dame said, so stylish. The necklines also had shape and style. I think my Mother used to refer to the neckline as a Sweetheart, then there was the bodice, it had a triangle shape in the front then flaired out. Amazing how the styles were cut fuller, and had so much appeal! I LOVE everything about the clothing in the 1940's, and I do which it would return. Right now, 1960's retro is very in vogue, maybe we are slowly getting closer to the 1940's looks.
